Do GEO and SEO compete or complement each other?
GEO and SEO are complementary, not competing. They address overlapping but different discovery systems that are both active in the modern buyer research journey. A brand needs both because buyers use both.
Some GEO improvements have positive SEO spillover effects. Improving entity clarity, adding FAQ schema markup, making content more specific and evidence-dense, and ensuring clean crawlability all benefit search engine comprehension as well as AI system representation.
